The Wider Table
A little more understanding. A lot more belonging.
When you’re raising a neurodivergent child, you research. You become skilled at finding your way through unfamiliar territory. You research, ask questions, make plans, rethink them and try again. You learn which places feel welcoming, who understands and where to turn when you need support.
Sometimes you find exactly what you need. Other times, you spend hours piecing together information you wish someone had shared from the beginning.
I’m a mum raising a neurodivergent child, so I know this experience well. I understand the mental load behind seemingly ordinary decisions: the constant questions, unexpected hurdles and quiet victories that can mean so much.
I also know the value of another parent saying, “We’ve been through that. Here’s what helped us.” A single conversation can save hours of searching, ease weeks of uncertainty or simply remind you that you’re not alone.
That’s why I started The Wider Table.
A little knowledge can go a long way
Through my own experiences, I’ve learned a great deal. Some lessons came through trial and error; others came from research, conversations and the generosity of people willing to share what they had discovered.
Over time, I began to wonder why so much useful knowledge remains scattered across families, websites, conversations and communities. Why should each parent have to begin from scratch when someone else may already have found a helpful path?
The Wider Table grew from that question.
It isn’t about one person having all the answers. It’s about bringing together the insight, experience and understanding we hold collectively, so families have more places to begin.
I can’t promise to have every answer, but I hope The Wider Table means fewer families have to search for them alone.
So pull up a chair. Read, subscribe, follow, contribute or simply pass along something that might help someone else. However you choose to take part, you are welcome here.
Welcome to The Wider Table.
I’m so glad you’re here.
